Thelma Toole's 121st birthday party

Societé Des Champs Elyseé, The SDCE Pantry & The French Quarter Journal Present  Thelma Toole’s 121st Birthday Party and Celebration of the literary history of our neighborhood.
September 3, 2023  Baldwin & Co. Books 1030 Elysian Fields

Thelma Toole spent her twilight years at 1016 Elysian Fields in the early eighties, across from the Schwegmann’s, a block from where Blanche Dubois alights from a certain streetcar, and two doors down from the literary heart of the Champs Elysee, Baldwin & Co.
Her neighbors, and friends, Kenneth Holditch and Frank Daugherty are coming from around the corner on Frenchmen, and, from Mobile, to share their first hand tales of the mother of the genius (just ask her) Thelma Toole.
JK Toole was a Pulitzer prize winning New Orleans literary genius. His work is also deeply problematic in his depiction of Black, female, and LGBT characters. How do we respond to a novelist (and novelist's mother) who give us so many reasons to cringe? We'll discuss his (their?) mixed legacy.
The Societe Des Champs Elysee is a 501(c)7 Social Aid & Pleasure Club dedicated to the betterment of the citizens of the St Claude & Elysian, and thus the world. The SDCE Pantry 501(c)3 is the hub for food distribution to Community Fridges, the homeless, and the working poor.
