Hyperion & Thea

Of Hyperion we are told that he was the first to understand, by diligent attention and observation, the movement of both the sun and the moon and the other stars, and the seasons as well, in that they are caused by these bodies, and to make these facts known to others; and that for this reason he was called the father of these bodies, since he had begotten, so to speak, the speculation about them and their nature.
HYPERION married Theia, and Theia was subject in love to Hyperion and bore clear Selene the Moon, and rosy-armed Eos the Dawn, and tireless Helios the Sun.
Theia, goddess of sight and the shining light of heaven, bringer of foresight and prophecy. Theia, goddess of many names, thanks to thee, men ascribe to gold a strength exceeding all other powers that are. For ships that sail the seas in rivalry and racing chariot steeds for thy honour, O queen, rise to the height of wondrous deeds amidst the whirling wheels of struggle. And in the contests of the Games, he reaps that prize of glory that all hearts desire.

In 2019, we crowned our King & Queen, Matthew & Jennifer Hobaugh Johnson, Hyperion and Theia, father and mother of the sun, moon, stars, and SCIENCE, in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary.
Matt is a technology lawyer who negotiates and drafts software licenses, cloud services deals, hardware purchases, and other technology-related transactions.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, he was an operations executive in the senior living industry.
A sincere and dedicated amateur, Matt plays trumpet with the American Legion Post 350 Concert Band, Some Like It Hot!, and at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where he and Jennifer have been very active parishioners since 2011. Matt graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1993 and the George Washington University Law School in 2002.
Jennifer also holds a BA from The College of William and Mary, where she became involved in Phi Mu Fraternity. She is currently National Vice President.
Jennifer has helped shape policy and politics in Louisiana and the U.S. in her quarter century of political polling, market research, and strategic consulting, rising from tabulating and faxing questionnaires to being President and Owner of LJR Custom Strategies Inc.
She has been a Louisiana Budget Project Board member since 2013.

Together, their carnival season involves riding with the Southdowns Krewe in Baton Rouge since 2012, King Arthur since 2017, and as original members of La société pas si secrète des Champs-Élysées.
Visitors for many years, they became New Orleans residents in 2010, “because no one in New Orleans asks you what you do for your job when you first meet them.” Currently, they are rehabbing the St Roch, one home at a time.
